ASSESSMENT: The Art History portion of your overall Humanities Lecture grade is 20%. Your final grade will be based on tests, written critiques, and the community artreach requirement throughout the year. The grading breakdown Is as follows: 5% is based on your community artreach requirement (1 per semester), 5% is based on your written critique (1), and 10% multiple choice tests.
WRITTEN CRITIQUE: Throughout the course of the year, students will learn how to look at, talk about and write about artwork. Humanities students will be required to choose a piece of art or architecture from the course to do a written formal analysis on. The written critique will be completed in the second semester of the course.
COMMUNITY ARTREACH: All Humanities students will be required each semester to out into our community and pay attention to the art and architecture we are so fortunate to have in Ann Arbor. This could include going to a museum, attending an art show opening, visiting galleries, walking around the city and viewing the architecture and public sculpture, attending an artist lecture. A formal analysis (paper) is to be completed and turned in with a ticket stub, brochure, pictures of the artwork.
MAKE-UP WORK AND LATE ASSIGNMENTS: Naturally, I expect all assignments to be completed and turned in on the due date. However, if for some reason you are not able to comply with the due date, it is your responsibility to let me know in advance so that alternative arrangements can be made. Otherwise, late work will be marked down 5% per day.
EXTRA HELP: Nothing is more important to me than your intellectual and personal growth over the course of the year. Therefore, if there is anything I can do to help you, please let me know. Also, please feel free to contact me through email or drop by and see me in room E105.
Cheating/Plagiarism: Cheating is unethical and not acceptable. Plagiarism is using information or original wording without giving credit to the source of that information or wording: it is also not acceptable. Do not submit work under your name that you did not do yourself. You may not submit work for this class that you did for another class. If you are found to be cheating or plagiarizing, you will be subject to disciplinary action.
